The Effects of the Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Recall

Over 20,000 Stryker Rejuvenate and ABGII were sold between early 2010 and the Stryker Rejuvenate hip recall in July, 2012. These thousands of patients with a Stryker Rejuvenate or ABGII hip implant may have experienced serious, adverse health events directly related to their metal hip implant. Prior to the Stryker Rejuvenate hip recall, the FDA received over 300 adverse event reports related to the Rejuvenate and ABGII. In some of these adverse event reports, surgeons noted the presence of what appeared to be “black rust” on the metal hip implants removed from their patients.

How Stryker ABGII and Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Metal Debris is Generated

Stryker ABGII hip metal debris occurs when the metal components of a hip implant rub against one another during periods of activity. This creates friction and results in the shearing away of tiny cobalt and chromium ions from the hip implant. These metal ions can result in such Stryker ABGII hip dangers as Stryker Rejuvenate hip metallosis, Stryker ABGII hip chromium & cobalt poisoning, the development of pseudo-tumors and presence of ALVAL (aseptic lymphocyte dominated vasculitis associated lesions). Pseudo-tumors are usually non-infectious, non-cancerous space-occupying tumors in the hip region. Research shows that those with metal hip implants have almost four times the risk of developing pseudo-tumors, and in many cases the patient is unaware of the tumor until it has grown quite large. ALVAL may be the result of bone dissolution, and some believe one potential cause may be a misalignment of the metal hip implant.

Symptoms of DePuy Pinnacle Hip Metallosis

When the tiny metal ions shear away from the hip implant and lodge in the surrounding hip tissues, DePuy Pinnacle hip metallosis can occur. DePuy Pinnacle hip metallosis symptoms can include persistent and worsening pain in the groin, thigh or hip region, significant levels of inflammation, deterioration and death of the hip tissues and bone, loosening of the hip implant, total failure of the hip implant, and the necessity for the patient to undergo DePuy Pinnacle hip revision surgery. Stryker Rejuvenate hip metallosis and Stryker ABGII hip metallosis will can produce similar symptoms.

Have You Experienced DePuy ASR Hip Chromium and Cobalt Poisoning?

Cobalt and Chromium ions which travel to the bloodstream can build up and be responsible for DePuy ASR hip chromium and cobalt poisoning. The primary symptoms of DePuy ASR hip chromium and cobalt poisoning or toxicity can include: gastrointestinal, renal, reproductive, cardiovascular, neurological and thyroid disorders, loss of hearing and vision, vertigo, short-term memory loss, the development of pseudo-tumors, chronic headaches, respiratory issues, including asthma, DNA disruption, the development of some types of cancer, irritability, anxiety and depression.
