Problems Associated With the Stryker Recalled Hip Implants
A Stryker hip recall was issued in July, 2012, following an Urgent Field Safety Notification which went out to hospitals and surgeons the prior April. Stryker officials’ notified hospitals and surgeons of potential risks associated with the two hip devices during this notification, including a higher-than-normal risk of failure as well as fretting and corrosion at the neck junction, leading to the release of excess cobalt and chromium ions into the body. At the time the two devices were released, in early 2010, excitement was high over the innovative new Stryker design. Both hip implants offered surgeons a variety of component pieces in various lengths and angles, allowing a more customized fit to the individual patient.

The design implemented a ceramic ball rather than a metal one which, Stryker claimed, would make the devices much safer than other metal-on-metal hip implants. Stryker also claimed the implants would last from 15-20 years—considerably longer than other hip implants. All in all, the release of the ABGII and Rejuvenate was a long-awaited event, however the next few months would see the excitement wane, tempered by concerns regarding the actual safety of the two devices. As it would turn out, following the Stryker hip recall, both the Rejuvenate and ABGII would be found to have almost the same level of patient metallosis and metal toxicity as other all-metal devices.

Over 20,000 patients have been potentially affected by the Stryker hip recall, and at least 1,700 consumers have already filed suit against Stryker for harm suffered due to a recalled Stryker hip implant. If you are one of the many people whose life was changed because of the Stryker hip recall, it is important that you contact an Oregon Stryker hip lawyer as soon as possible and ask about the Oregon Stryker hip statute of limitations, and how it might affect your case. You may have symptoms of metallosis, such as hip, thigh or groin pain, deterioration of hip tissue and bone, chronic pain, or total failure of your hip implant, in which case the Stryker hip recall has significantly impacted your life. Or, perhaps the metal ions reached your bloodstream, causing any number of serious medical issues such as:

  • Kidney problems
  • Thyroid issues
  • Stroke and heart attack
  • Neurological issues
  • Memory loss, vertigo and chronic headaches
  • Reproductive disorders
  • The development of pseudo-tumors
  • Chronic headaches
  • Skin rashes
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Loss of hearing and vision
  • DNA disruption

Will the Oregon Stryker Hip Statute of Limitations Affect Your Life?
The state of Oregon allows two years from the date the injury occurs in which to file a product liability case. Oregon also has an eight-year statute of repose; the statute of repose is triggered by an event such as the date of manufacture or sales, rather than an injury. Your Oregon Stryker hip statute of limitations can be complex, and difficult for the layperson to decipher. Speaking to an Oregon Stryker hip lawyer at the earliest possible moment, can be the very best decision you can make. You believed your Stryker implant was safe because you were told it was safe, yet those claims were less than accurate.

Now you may have suffered serious harm due to a defective Stryker product and need help. The only way to really know for sure when your Oregon Stryker hip statute of limitations will run is to contact an experienced Oregon Stryker hip lawyer. An Oregon Stryker hip lawsuit can recover damages for your medical expenses associated with the Stryker hip recall as well as pain and suffering, and, when warranted, punitive damages as well. Don’t wait—call an Oregon Stryker hip lawyer today.

Each client’s case is unique, and the specific circumstances of any individual case can have significant bearing on the applicable statute of limitations.
